About the SSE Airtricity Community Fund

The SSE Airtricity Community Fund supports communities around each of our 26 wind farms* through an annual fund, which is distributed to local activities and projects with a focus on energy efficiency and sustainability.

The fund for each wind farm:

  • Starts one year after the wind farm starts producing electricity,
  • Runs for the lifetime of the wind farm,
  • Is set each year according to the electricity produced by the wind farm.

*Community Funds only exist where the wind farm is wholly owned by SSE Airtricity.

What types of projects we fund

Previous projects we have funded to date are:

  • Insulation and double glazing for schools, soccer clubs and community halls
  • Replacement of windows and doors
  • Energy efficient pitch lighting for sports clubs and sports halls
  • Installation of solar lighting
  • Composters for community projects
  • Rainwater harvesting systems
  • Installation of an energy efficient electric heating solution.
