Why are the billing periods different for electricity and gas?

The dates for electricity and gas billing periods will be different, for two reasons:

  • With electricity we can estimate your usage right up until the end of your billing period. Unfortunately, with gas we can't generate estimates ourselves and have to request these to be sent to us.
  • We can only bill your gas to the dates we receive a reading or estimate and we can’t choose when we receive these, so they might not be exactly 2 months apart. If we don’t receive any readings for gas during your billing period, we won’t be able to issue a gas invoice.

By signing up for meter reading reminders and submitting regular gas readings you can help make the billing periods more similar. However, they will always be slightly different as meter readings must be submitted at least 2 days before the end of your billing period and we won’t be able to estimate these remaining days for gas.
