How to top up for Smart Pay As You Go

There is no need to input long codes into the meter as the top-up goes directly to the Smart Pay As You Go meter, no matter what top-up option you choose.

The easiest way to top up is through the Smart Pay As You Go app.

Android: download here

IOS: download here

Once you are logged into our Smart Pay As You Go app you can select your active balance on the accounts information page as shown below and this will bring up the top up page.

The payment page will tell you your current balance and allow you to select how much you want to top up by. You can also select to schedule future payments.

If you would prefer to top up in store, you can do so using Smart Pay As You Go card which we will issue to you. You can top up through approved Payzone outlets, you can find your nearest Payzone outlet here.

If you don’t have a Smart Pay As You Go card or have lost yours, please contact us and we'll issue you with a replacement electricity card free of charge. The minimum amount you can top up by is €5 and the maximum amount you can have in your wallet is €300.

For example: If you already have a balance of €10 in your wallet, the maximum amount you'll be able to top up by is €290

If you have any arrears, a percentage of each top-up you buy, which we'll have agreed with you goes towards reducing the arrears until the balance is cleared. We'll send you a statement of your arrears every four months. If you need to discuss your arrears or your percentage that was agreed, please contact our Credit Control Team 0818 81 22 20.

Credit Threshold

When your credit reduces to €10 or below, you'll receive a notification to advise to top up. This will advise you of the amount you’ll need to top up by to keep your electricity connected. This will be sent by email; however, you can configure through the Smart Pay You Go app or your online account to receive by SMS and push notification. It’s important to keep this information up to date to avoid missing any notification. You can set the amount of your low balance threshold and receive notifications when the balance reaches this amount.

Emergency credit

You'll be able to avail of your €20 emergency credit through the Smart Pay As You Go app or your online account once your balance is €10 or below. This emergency credit will only be available to use for 30 days or until the €20 runs out. Once your emergency credit has been used, you'll be required to pay this in full in your next top-up. If this is not paid in full, you won’t be able to activate any further emergency credits.

Friendly credit

If your credit runs out, we'll automatically apply a friendly credit amount to keep your supply on during certain hours of the week.

Please remember to top up before the credit time runs out or your electricity will disconnect outside of the below hours.

Monday to Thursday: If your credit runs out after 4pm, the supply will stay on until 9am the following day.

Friday to Sunday: If your emergency credit runs out anytime after 4pm on a Friday the supply will stay on until 9am the following Monday.

Holidays: Friendly credit will not run out on the following public holidays: 1st January, 17th March, 24th, 25th, 26th and 31th December.

Electricity supply will stay on until 9am on the remaining bank holiday Monday unless you have topped up.

Remember the next time you buy electricity, the amount of emergency credit and friendly credit used will be deducted from your balance.
