What we do
We all want to live and work in a cleaner, greener world. We're proud to supply cleaner, greener energy† from local wind farms and using solar energy for homes and businesses across Northern Ireland. By choosing SSE Airtricity, you’re joining the growing numbers of people helping to power a cleaner, greener environment.
SSE Airtricity is part of the SSE Group, which wholly and partially owns 31 wind farms around the island of Ireland. In addition, we also have long term Power Purchase Agreements in place with third party renewable energy generators for over 300MW of renewable energy (wind and solar) sourced power on the island, including energy from the largest solar farm on the island of Ireland, Bann Road at Rasharkin in Co. Antrim. We’re the commissioning supplier of natural gas to all domestic and small commercial customers for the Gas to the West distribution network.
Investing in Northern Ireland
Since 2008, SSE has invested over half a billion pounds in the development of Northern Ireland’s sustainable energy infrastructure, helping to make a greener economy and secure Northern Ireland’s energy future. Our transparency and commitment to paying a fair rate of tax, wherever we operate, means SSE has been accredited with the prestigious fair tax mark for 6 years in a row.
In 2024, SSE Airtricity launched the Generation Green Community Fund to support communities around the island of Ireland.
SSE Airtricity's sustainability strategy is aligned with the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals to action the need to end poverty, protect the planet and improve the prospects and wellbeing of everyone, everywhere.
SSE Airtricity employs around 450 people directly in Northern Ireland, including over 300 people in our contact centre in Belfast. We’re proud to be accredited by the UKs Living Wage Foundation meaning all our employees are able to earn a real living wage. As well as that, SSE has created hundreds of jobs, and supported local supply chain businesses, through the construction of our wind farms.
