SSE Airtricity Budget Plan is a free service which allows you to spread your energy costs for the year across 12 monthly payments.
It works because in the summer you will use relatively small amounts of energy so your monthly payments will be higher than your actual usage. Since you’re paying more than what you’re using, you build up credit on your account.
On the other hand, during the winter you will use relatively large amounts of energy so your payments will be lower than your actual usage. During these months, your account will draw on the credit you built up during the summer.

How does it work?
Once you sign up to SSE Airtricity Budget Plan, we’ll calculate your energy costs for the next year based on:
Your past and current energy usage
Time of year
Your energy rates
We'll divide this by 12 to determine your monthly payment amount. Every month you'll receive a bill which shows your recent payments, your energy usage and costs, and your account balance.
After every fourth bill we'll review your monthly payment amount to make sure it's accurate, and at the end of the year we'll review all your payments and charges - if your account is in credit this will be carried over to the next year.
It doesn't cost you anything to be on SSE Airtricity Budget Plan and you can opt out at any time.
