Why did I get an estimated bill when I submitted a reading a few days ago?

If you received an estimated bill even though you just submitted a reading it usually means one of the following:

  • Your reading was rejected by the networks
  • Your reading was not received in time (we must receive it at least 5 days before the end of your billing period), or
  • We had to estimate the remaining days in your billing period.

If your reading was rejected you should check your MPRN number and also look at our Meter Reading Guide to make sure you’re reading your meter in the right way.

If your reading was accepted but your bill is still estimated, this is because we can only accept meter readings up to 5 days before the end of your billing period. We may sometimes estimate these remaining days – but this doesn’t mean your whole bill is estimated.
