4th October 2011: Airtricity, Ireland’s fastest-growing energy supply company, is officially Ireland’s cheapest supplier of electricity and dual fuel energy products for the home. The company has today unveiled a range of new and competitive electricity and dual-fuel products that will help home energy consumers make great savings.
As well as announcing the best discounted unit rates in the market, Airtricity has also announced that it is offering consumers guaranteed tracker discounts for up to two years. Airtricity is the only supplier operating in the current volatile wholesale energy market to offer home consumers the reassurance of Two Year gas and electricity discounts.
Electricity-only customers looking for the most competitive prices in the market will save around €100 more in one year and almost €190 more in two years if they switch to Airtricity’s best value rates than if they switch to ESB Electric Ireland’s best post-deregulation prices.
The savings are even better for existing ESB Electric Ireland customers who never switched to the semi-state’s initial post-deregulation discounts, which have now since been replaced. ESB Electric Ireland customers on the company’s standard rate, the highest standard rate in the market, will save almost €250 over two years – €161 in their first year and €86 in their second year – if they switch today to Airtricity’s 16% discounted electricity rate.
Dual-fuel customers switching to Airtricity will save up to €110 more in a year and around €260 more in two years if they switch to an Airtricity dual-fuel bundle than if they choose a dual-fuel package from ESB Electric Ireland. Similarly, dual-fuel customers switching to an Airtricity bundle instead of gas and electricity from Bord Gais Energy will save around €80 more in a year and over €200 more over two years with Airtricity than if they get their home energy from Bord Gais Energy.
Following today’s announcement Airtricity is officially Ireland’s cheapest supplier of electricity and dual fuel energy products for the home. Airtricity’s best value 16% discounted electricity product (in comparison to Airtricity standard rates) is 18% cheaper than ESB Electric Ireland standard rates and almost 13% cheaper than the recently deregulated semi-state’s best introductory rates.
Stephen Wheeler, Airtricity Managing Director, comments: “Since we entered the domestic energy market in 2008, Airtricity has always sought to lead the way in price reductions and in bringing competition to the Irish electricity and gas markets. While energy costs have increased we’re committed to continue offering competitive prices to all our customers so that we can help them make great savings. Our new electricity and gas prices are the most competitive in the market and our new Two Year Discounted Electricity and Dual Fuel Bundle products offer customers the reassurance of cheaper home energy for the next two years, which is good news for consumers at a time when wholesale energy markets remain volatile.”

Airtricity is Ireland’s fastest-growing, greenest and largest independent energy supply brand, supplying over half a million domestic and commercial gas, electricity and home energy services customers.
Airtricity is the cheapest supplier of electricity-only and dual-fuel home energy in the Republic of Ireland. For the second year in a row Airtricity is ranked the Most Reputable Energy Supply Company in Ireland (2011 and 2010 Ireland RepTrak Study).
At Airtricity we believe in energy made better. Airtricity is officially recognised as Ireland’s leading greener energy supplier winning the prestigious Green Energy Award in 2011 for the third year running. Almost one quarter (24%) of the electricity Airtricity supplies to its customers is generated from renewable sources – twice that of its nearest commercial competitor and twice that of the total amount of renewables generated on an All Island basis. The generation of the electricity supplied to all Airtricity customers results in 31% less CO2 emissions per MWh than the energy supplied to the average customer on the island of Ireland.
Airtricity is powered by SSE with renewable energy from the largest wind generation portfolio on the island of Ireland. Over 500MW of renewable energy from 26 wind farms powers Airtricity’s greener electricity supply – including power from Ireland’s largest wind farm, the 84MW Meentycat Wind Farm in Co. Donegal.
Airtricity is a wholly-owned division of the Top 40 FTSE listed SSE Group plc, the broadest-based utility in Ireland and the UK. Proud to be rated as No. 1 for customer service, SSE supplies electricity, gas and home services to 10 million homes and businesses.
