SSE Airtricity announced as official Sustainability Partner to Dublin Zoo

Dublin Zoo has signed a new five-year partnership agreement with SSE Airtricity that will see Ireland’s largest green energy provider become the official Sustainability Partner to Ireland’s most popular family attraction.

As part of the new five-year Sustainability Partnership, SSE Airtricity will supply all facilities at the 28-hectare park in the heart of Dublin city with 100% renewable electricity as well as natural gas. The energy supply deal has an estimated value in excess of €2.5 million.

With the move, Dublin’s world-famous zoo will be fully-powered by clean, green electricity.

In addition to power supply, the expert team of business energy specialists at SSE Airtricity Energy Services will work with Dublin Zoo facilities management to identify additional carbon and cost savings that can be made through innovative energy efficiency and energy conservation measures. These improvements will strengthen Dublin Zoo’s position as a world-class zoo.

Leo Oosterweghel, Director at Dublin Zoo, said:

“At Dublin Zoo we are dedicated to conservation and education. Every aspect of what we do is about preserving wildlife from extinction. We are committed to leading by example and are looking forward to working in partnership with SSE Airtricity to exemplify and showcase best practice sustainability throughout Dublin Zoo.”

David O’Byrne, Head of Business Energy Sales at SSE Airtricity, said:

“Sustainability is one of SSE Airtricity’s core values and central to our overall business strategy. As Ireland’s largest generator of wind energy we recognise the importance of operating responsibly to ensure that we manage our environmental, social and economic impacts, and we know the importance of working with partners who share our commitment towards providing greener energy for a cleaner environment, now and for generations to come.

“Through this agreement with Dublin Zoo, we are entering into a long-term partnership with a team that shares our commitment to working sustainably, whether at the habitats at Dublin Zoo or at each of our 26 wind farms on the island. We are looking forward to working with Dublin Zoo in the months and years ahead to help its dedicated team achieve even further environmental improvements for this much-loved facility.”
