Baz Ashmawy joins us for a ‘Summer of Sustainability’ at Dublin Zoo

We're teaming up with Dublin Zoo to help families learn more about sustainability with two dedicated weekends this summer

TV presenter Baz Ashmawy joined us to launch a ‘Summer of Sustainability’ yesterday, celebrating our exciting new offer of a year of free family days out at Dublin Zoo when customers switch their electricity and gas.

As the proud Sustainability Partner of Dublin Zoo, we're inviting visitors to join the us for two fun-filled Sustainability Weekends for all the family taking place in Dublin Zoo on June 16 and 17, and on July 21 and 22.  Everyone visiting Dublin Zoo for each of the two-day weekend events will be guided through fun and interactive tasks and activities, including taking part in a mini worm excavation, building your very own ‘Bug Hotel’, and exploring SSE Airtricity’s Eco Explorer Trail. Plus, there will be plenty of exclusive prizes to be won, facepainters for your ‘little tigers’, and much more.

The ‘Summer of Sustainability’ is being launched to celebrate our exciting new offer of a year of free days out for the family at Dublin Zoo. All new customers switching for 100% green electricity and natural gas1 will get a Free Dublin Zoo Annual Family Pass, worth €185. With an Annual Family Pass after they switch, SSE Airtricity customers can bring a family of up to seven2 to Dublin Zoo any time of the year, and as often as they like – plus, with a 10% discount for switching, customers are also saving on their energy costs meaning more treats for everyone during all the zoo visits!

Speaking at the ‘Summer of Sustainability’ launch TV presenter Baz Ashmawy said: “We’re really excited to be exploring Dublin Zoo by taking on the SSE Airtricity Exo-Explorer Trail for the first time as a family today. Myself and the kids have been making a conscious effort to live more sustainably at home and it’s really great to be able to show them how this translates into the wider world and makes a real difference while having a fun, family day out.”

Visitors to the Sustainability Weekends and throughout the year can become ‘Eco Explorers’ with the help of SSE Airtricity’s interactive Eco-Explorer smartphone app that helps teach big and little zoo visitors alike what they can do to improve their green behaviours while visiting Dublin Zoo, as well as when they return home.

SSE Airtricity’s Eco Explorer Trail and accompanying app are designed to bring the concept of sustainability to life for visitors to Dublin Zoo. Users of the Eco Explorer app are encouraged to take simple steps to become more environmentally conscious during their visit to the zoo, such as refilling their water bottle, reducing waste, and learning about the dangers of discarded plastic to animals. Little explorers can use to app to navigate the trail and collect virtual badges at each of the nine Sustainability Stations. Plus, by using the app, all explorers are in the running to win exclusive prizes and money-can’t-buy experiences.
