SSE Airtricity announces price change in response to sustained increases in wholesale energy costs

Friday, 29 October: SSE Airtricity has today announced a 9% increase to its residential electricity prices. The price change is due to sustained increases in wholesale energy costs which have affected all energy suppliers and continue to disrupt energy markets across the UK and Europe.

The increase will be effective from 1 December 2021 and means a typical customer will see costs rise by around £1.12 per week*.

Klair Neenan, Managing Director of SSE Airtricity said:

“The decision to increase our prices has not been taken lightly. We have made every effort to delay this announcement as long as we could but unfortunately, as we have seen with other suppliers, sustained increases in wholesale energy costs are driving consumer prices upward.

“We know price increases are never welcome news for our customers and we will continue to monitor the situation closely with a commitment to reducing our prices as soon as it is possible to do so.

“SSE Airtricity has a longstanding history of working with our customers, especially those who may be experiencing financial difficulty. We recently contacted a number of SSE Airtricity account holders to offer additional help and support with their energy bills, and we would encourage any customer who is struggling to contact us. We will do everything we can to find a solution together.”

SSE Airtricity continues to offer customers discount on their utility bills for opting to go paperless with direct debit and ebilling.

Customers looking to contact the company can do so by dialling 0345 601 9093 or visiting sseairtricity.com. Alternatively, independent advice and information is available from Advice NI on 0800 915 4604 or online at adviceni.net.

* From 1 December 2021, the typical annual cost of home electricity will be £707.95, based on a customer on 24hr SmartSaver Standard credit meter tariff (Direct Debit with eBilling) with typical consumption of 3,200 kWh. Figures are inclusive of VAT. Actual costs vary according to meter type, individual tariff and consumption.
