SSE Airtricity donates €1million to Society of St Vincent de Paul (SVP)

Donation is part of SSE Airtricity’s suite of supports for those struggling during the cost-of-living crisis

SSE Airtricity has provided the Society of St. Vincent de Paul (SVP), the largest charity of social concern and action in Ireland, with a donation of €1,000,000 that aims to support households in need of financial assistance during the current cost of living crisis.

SSE Airtricity has partnered with SVP as a trusted charity leading the fight against poverty in Ireland to target practical supports at people most in need during times of difficulty. The SVP volunteers meet households in communities across the island of Ireland, offering friendship and support as well as financial assistance.

The €1 million donation is part of SSE Airtricity’s ongoing customer affordability programme, which includes a range of measures* designed to support customers, households and individuals who are experiencing significant challenges in dealing with the rising cost of living.

Klair Neenan, Managing Director of SSE Airtricity, said: “SSE Airtricity is very proud of our partnership with the Society of St. Vincent de Paul and we have great admiration for the incredible work they do across the island of Ireland. We have worked hard together to ensure that this donation will go directly to households that need it most and to support them during a difficult period. We understand the pressure that households are under and how the current cost of living crisis is impacting our most vulnerable members of society. This is an extremely difficult time for many in Irish society, and this donation will help SVP in providing their essential services to those who need it most.

“This partnership is part of SSE Airtricity’s wider commitment to supporting our customers. As always, we would encourage any of our customers who are facing difficulty to contact us, and we will work together to find a solution.”

Rose McGowan, National President of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, said: “We welcome and appreciate this significant donation from SSE Airtricity which will help households struggling with financial hardship, in particular their energy costs in the coming winter. Our only criteria for providing help and support is need, and we encourage those now struggling to contact us at svp.ie or any of our regional offices.”

For those who may be in difficulty, independent financial advice is also available from MABS by phoning 0818 07 2000.

*SSE Airtricity’s customer supports this year to date include today’s €1m charitable donation; a further €1m fund administered directly by SSE Airtricity to customers experiencing difficulty in managing energy bills; and a scheme to deliver home energy upgrade measures for up to 600 homes in fuel poverty at no cost to them. The utility has also recently committed to a price promise for financially vulnerable customers, shielding those customers from any further price increases for the remainder of the year.
