SSE Airtricity to increase household energy prices from 1 September in response to rising wholesale energy costs

SSE Airtricity is today announcing that it is to increase its standard household energy prices from 1 September 2021. The move is in response to sustained increases in wholesale energy costs, which have impacted all energy suppliers in the market.

The price change will see a typical household bill increase by 9.8%^ on average, equivalent to around €3.89 per week for dual fuel customers. For single fuel customers, this price change means a tandard electricity bill will increase by €2.27 per week while the standard gas bill will rise by €1.61 per week.

Klair Neenan, SSE Airtricity Managing Director, said:

"Unfortunately, there have been sustained increases in wholesale energy costs over the last year. We have worked hard to limit and delay the impact of this on our customers and have not taken the decision lightly, however, these costs are outside of our control, and, as we have seen from other announcements, impact all energy suppliers in the market.

“We will continue to monitor this carefully and, as we have done before, will look to reduce our prices as soon as it is possible to do so. SSE Airtricity has a longstanding history of supporting our customers and we’d encourage anyone who needs help with their energy bills to contact us and we will work with you to find a solution together.”

As Ireland’s largest supplier of 100% green energy*, SSE Airtricity continues to offer customers
discount on their utility bills for opting to go paperless with direct debit and ebilling. The company also has a range of sustainable energy solutions which help customers make greener choices through initiatives for EVs, solar PV, smart home bundles, and retrofitting works.
