SSE Airtricity welcomes the major boost to solar for businesses, public buildings and community organisations with new grants of up to €162,200. The move has been described as a “game changer” by Oisin Burke, Business Energy Solutions, Commercial Lead at SSE Airtricity.

The new grants will typically support up to 30% of the investment cost for solar PV, reducing the payback to below 5 years. SSE Airtricity and its partner Activ8 Solar Energies are currently offering desktop solar assessments for businesses to explore the viability of solar PV.

Supporting a Range of Organisation Sizes

Announced by Ministers Eamon Ryan and Simon Coveney, the new scheme will support solar PV-installation sizes greater than 6 kW up to 1,000 kW (1 MW) capacity, with tiered grants of €2,700 to €162,600.

This will cover a range of businesses sizes from small local shops to large manufacturing facilities. It will also be available for public buildings, sports clubs and community organisations. An installation size of 1000 kW equates to approximately 2,500 solar PV panels, which could be accommodated on a large factory or warehouse rooftop.

Complementing Existing Solar PV Supports for Households

The scheme complements existing grant funding available for micro-solar PV installations of up to 6kW for businesses (equivalent to up 16 solar panels). Supporting this, SSE Airtricity and Activ8 have launched a new solar product, ensuring our domestic customers are paid a market-leading 34c per kWh for excess solar power exported to the grid.
