What happens if I run out of credit?
If you have a Freedom box (marked Freedom on the front), when your credit drops to €2 it will emit a low-volume warning sound for 2 minutes. Press the 0 button on your keypad to turn this warning sound off.
If you don't have a Freedom box, there will be no warning sound.
If you don't turn it off, the warning sound will repeat every 30 minutes between 11:00am and 10:00pm. Your supply will switch off when the credit runs out.
After you press the 0 button, you'll automatically receive €5 Emergency credit.
If your emergency credit runs out during the friendly credit times listed below we will automatically give you friendly credit to keep your supply on. You must remember to top up before the friendly credit time runs out or your electricity will disconnect.
Friendly credit hours (during which the meter will not self-disconnect) are as follows:
- Mon-Thurs: 4pm – 9am (the following day)
- Fri-Mon: From 4pm on Friday until 9am on Monday morning.
- Holidays: 1st January, 17th March, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, St. Stephen’s Day & 31st December.
The times above are for Winter time, add one hour for Summer time (when the hour goes forward) eg, 12:00pm the next day if your credit runs out after 5:00pm (Monday to Thursday).
Your supply will switch off when your Friendly credit runs out, unless you top up.
Paying back Emergency and Friendly credit
If you have had to use Emergency or Friendly credit, this will be deducted from your next top-up.
Important information on standing charges
Standing charges and other charges will continue to be deducted from your credit, even if you are away from home for a period of time. Please ensure you have enough credit on your meter to cover these charges even if you are away.
