How do I get a pay-as-you-go gas meter?
Am I eligible?
More and more of our customers are managing their debt and controlling their energy costs by switching to a prepayment or pay-as-you-go meter. It's available to customers in arrears, and there are some technical and other criteria which we can easily check with you. If you're found to be eligible, installation is free of charge.

How does it work?
A pay as you go meter allows you to pay for your gas and electricity as you use it. You won’t receive a bill from us, so it’s a simple way to pay for your energy. It helps you to budget for your energy use, and you can see how much energy you use on a daily basis. We’ll still send you a regular statement so you can keep an eye on how much you’ve used.
Your outstanding debt from your past energy bills will be added to your pay as you go meter and you won't have to worry about making separate repayments - they'll be taken automatically as an affordable percentage of each top-up that you make.
What happens if I am selected?
Customers who are selected will be sent a letter and will receive a call from Gas Networks Ireland to arrange a time to install your new pre-paid meter.
The Gas Networks Ireland engineer will supply one gas prepayment card and a user guide during installation, and will show you how to use the meter.
