Sligo Rovers pair Aidan Keena and Emma Doherty pick up Player of The Month awards
Aidan Keena of Sligo Rovers has been named SSE Airtricity / Soccer Writers Ireland Player of the Month for July.
The striker bagged a brace against Shelbourne, and went on to score crucial goals away to Bala Town and Motherwell as the Bit O’Red progressed to the third qualifying round of the Europa Conference League.
It is 23-year-old Keena’s second time to win the award, having previously claimed it in March.
“It’s brilliant to win the Player of the Month award again,” said Keena, the Premier Division’s top scorer with 11 goals this season.
Sligo Rovers forward Emma Doherty has been selected as the SSE Airtricity WNL Player of the Month for June / July 2022.
The mark of a top player is when they deliver their best performance as the spotlight burns its brightest on the biggest stage. That is what Emma Doherty has done in her debut season in the SSE Airtricity Women's National League.
The 18-year-old has scored nine League goals so far, while her overall play has helped Sligo reached the semi-finals of the EVOKE.ie FAI Women's Cup and become a force to be reckoned with.
Leanne Sheill, SSE Airtricity Marketing Manager, said: “Congratulations to Emma Doherty on being named the SSE Airtricity Women’s National League Player of the Month for June / July. She has been central to Sligo Rovers’ success so far this year and has a bright future ahead.
We would also like to congratulate Sligo Rovers on being the first club to win the Men’s and Women’s Player of the Month awards in the same month with Aidan Keena picking up the SSE Airtricity / Soccer Writers’ Ireland Player of the Month for July. What an incredible achievement and it’s a testament to all the hard work that happens both on and off the pitch at Sligo Rovers.
