What is Lighting as a Service (LaaS) and how does it work?

Lighting as a Service (LaaS) is a service delivery model which supports Business Energy customers to upgrade their existing conventional lighting system to energy efficient LED lighting, with no upfront cost or capital expenditure burden on their business. The repayment schedule for the cost of the lighting upgrade will be repaid by customers on monthly basis, generally over a period of 2-3 years through SSE Airtricity on-bill solution. Whereby the cost savings from the energy consumption reduction, as a result of the energy efficient lighting upgrade, contributes towards the monthly repayment.

I am an existing SSE Airtricity electricity / gas customer (in or out of contract); can I avail of this new offer?

Yes, if you are an existing customer you can avail of the Lighting as a Service offer. You will be subject to a current credit check by SSE Airtricity and VERDE ENERGY to confirm ability to make repayments. Consultation with VERDE ENERGY will also be required to determine that your premise and light fittings meet the necessary requirements before commencing with lighting upgrade works.

I am not an existing SSE Airtricity electricity / gas customer; can I avail of this new offer?

No, not at this time, however if you wish to switch your utility supply to SSE Airtricity you can then be considered for the Lighting as a Service offer.

What will I need to do to avail of the Lighting as a Service (LaaS) offer?

You can contact SSE Airtricity on 0818 81 21 44 or businessenergysolutions@sse.com, to express an interest in having the lights at your business upgraded to LED lighting under the LaaS offer.

What will happen after I contact SSE Airtricity with an interest the Lighting as a Service (LaaS) offer?

After you contact SSE Airtricity, your expression of interest will be forwarded to SSE Airtricity’s lighting partner VERDE ENERGY. SSE Airtricity and VERDE ENERGY will also carry out a current credit check to verify your eligibility for the LaaS offer. If your credit check is positive, you will be eligible to sign up for the LaaS offer. VERDE will contact you to discuss suitability, arrangement of a lighting audit, provide a proposal of costs & repayment schedule, and carryout installation works.

What is a credit & suitability check? Will it affect me in availing the Lighting as a Service (LaaS) offer?

A credit check is an internal credit rating check which defines the credit rating of a customer with SSE Airtricity and VERDE ENERGY. It defines the customers’ ability to pay back the credit to SSE Airtricity and VERDE ENERGY. A negative credit & suitability check will have an impact on the customer’s eligibility to avail the LaaS offer. SSE Airtricity and/or VERDE ENERGY has a right to reject a customer’s expression of interest in availing the LaaS offer at their own discretion based on a customer’s credit rating. A suitability check will be determined based on existing light fittings at your business and a feasibility study carried out as to whether a viable project exists to qualify for LaaS.

When will the lights be upgraded after I express an interest in Lighting as a Service (LaaS) offer?

SSE Airtricity and VERDE ENERGY will work towards fulfilling your LaaS offer with a quick turnaround time. Provided all the necessary criteria as mentioned below are met, VERDE ENERGY could be onsite to complete the lighting upgrade works within 5-8 weeks of the initial enquiry, dependant on demand at any given time.

With whom I am entering into a Lighting as a Service (LaaS) agreement?

You will be entering into a contract with VERDE ENERGY for the LED lighting upgrades under the LaaS offer. SSE Airtricity will act as the collection agent for the monies owed to VERDE ENERGY for the LED lighting upgrades. If the terms of the repayment agreement are not satisfied via monthly repayment to SSE Airtricity, the LaaS offer will be cancelled from your SSE Airtricity utility bill and the collection process will be passed back to VERDE ENERGY. How will I repay for the LED Lighting upgrades under Lighting as a Service (LaaS) offer?

A line item stating “LaaS Repayment Instalment” equal to the monthly amounts in your repayment schedule will be included in your SSE Airtricity standard monthly bill for electricity and/or gas supply. This amount needs to be paid through Direct Debit.

What will my monthly repayment amount be, and what is the duration of the agreement?

The monthly repayment amounts, and the duration of the agreement will be as per the agreed Lighting as a Service (LaaS) contract with VERDE ENERGY. SSE Airtricity will confirm the same as part of the welcome communications, also confirming the commencement and end dates as per the customers billing cycle.

When do my Lighting as a Service (LaaS) repayments start with SSE Airtricity?

Once the LED lighting upgrades work is completed by VERDE ENERGY, SSE Airtricity will set-up the repayment schedule on SSE Airtricity’s billing system. Following which you will receive a welcome letter detailing the repayment schedule along with the commencement and the end dates. The “LaaS Repayment Instalment” will generally appear on the first SSE Airtricity monthly bill following receipt of the welcome letter.

For supply customers currently on bi-monthly billing cycles, they will receive a repayment schedule based on a monthly billing cycle for the existing billing cycle date. You can request to change the billing date, but this must be done once the welcome letter and repayment schedule is received and before repayments begin, by contacting SSE Airtricity on 0818 81 21 44 or businessenergysolutions@sse.com. (Max Demand meters being the only exception to a monthly billing cycle)

What date will my bill issue each month with my Lighting as a Service (LaaS) instalment?

As per the agreed contract with VERDE ENERGY, SSE Airtricity will issue the bill to you on a monthly basis, for the duration of the agreement until the balance is paid in full. The billing date in the month will remain the same as per your existing billing cycle for supply. You can request to change the billing date, but this must be done once the welcome letter and repayment schedule is received and before repayments begin, by contacting SSE Airtricity on 0818 81 21 44 or businessenergysolutions@sse.com.

For Max Demand meters, there is an exception to the monthly billing cycle as the supply billing is every two months. Hence, for such customers, the Max Demand Bill will have two LaaS repayment instalments included.

If I sign up for Direct Debit now, can I change to another payment /statement method in the future?

Lighting as a Service is only available to customers agreeing to pay monthly instalments by Direct Debit for the duration of the repayment agreement with VERDE ENERGY Group.

What are the payment terms for my Lighting as a Service (LaaS) Agreement?

You will have to repay the monthly LaaS repayment instalment within 14 days of the issue of the SSE Airtricity monthly bill which includes the LaaS repayment instalment by direct debit, as per standard SSE Airtricity’s payment terms.

What happens if I fail to make a monthly repayment?

In the event that you have been issued with your SSE Airtricity monthly bill which includes the LaaS repayment instalment, but you fail to make the payment on or before the 14-day due date, your account will progress through SSE Airtricity’s collection cycle and the relevant notices of non-payment will be issued to you. You can contact SSE Airtricity’s Customer Service team at 0818 81 21 44, to discuss a payment arrangement to address arrears before your next monthly bill is due.

If you fail to make the payment or fail to agree to pay the arrears with SSE Airtricity’s Credit Control team, before the 60-day period from the initial monthly bill date, the SSE Airtricity’s collection cycle will have run its full course, the LaaS repayments will be deemed unreclaimable and your LAAS offer will terminate. SSE Airtricity will issue you with the notice of cancellation of the repayment schedule along with the details of the outstanding balance. At this point SSE Airtricity will pass back the full outstanding balance to VERDE ENERGY to pursue payment for the total outstanding amount from you.

Is my electricity and / or gas supply at risk of disconnection for non-payment of Lighting as a Service (LaaS)?

No, Lighting as a Service is an ancillary service and is not directly connected to your utility supply contract with SSE Airtricity and thus any non-payment of the LaaS repayment will not result in the disconnection of the supply. The LaaSrepayment instalment is included in the SSE Airtricity standard monthly bill alongside supply charges. Any payments (fully or partially) made by you towards the monthly bill will be accounted to the supply account firstly, until paid in full and then secondly, it will be accounted to the ancillary product i.e. LAAS repayment. Please note that any non-payment may result in a negative impact of your current credit rating with SSE Airtricity and VERDE ENERGY which may affect the future services.

What happens when my Lighting as a Service (LaaS) Repayment Schedule ends?

When your balance for the LaaS repayment instalments has been paid in full for the lighting upgrades, SSE Airtricity will send you a completion letter detailing the total amount repaid and confirming that the repayments have ended. No further action is required from you.

Do I have to remain an SSE Airtricity supply customer for the duration of the Lighting as a Service (LaaS) repayment agreement?

No, if you are an existing customer of SSE Airtricity’s you can decide to switch supplier when you are out of contract with SSE Airtricity while still in a LaaS agreement. The monthly LaaS repayment instalments will continue independent of a supply contract being in place and the monthly bills will continue to be issued to you for the remainder of the LaaS agreement.

What if you want to end the Lighting As A Service (LaaS) payment earlier? Due to the change of your tenancy status or selling of your business.

As per the LaaS contract with VERDE ENERGY, any business which entered into the agreement will be responsible for paying the outstanding balance in full. The repayment schedule can be cancelled from the on-bill solution billed by SSE Airtricity, but outstanding balance will still need to be settled with VERDE ENERGY.

I like to receive my bills in the post; can I still avail of this offer?

The method as to how you receive your supply bill will have no impact on your ability to avail of this offer.

What warranty and guarantees do I receive for the lighting upgrade works?

Standard warranty applies as per the VERDE ENERGY contract. Extended warranty and maintenance arrangements can be entered into with VERDE ENERGY.

Can I avail two or more LaaS offer?

Yes, you can sign up for two or more LaaS offer. For each instance the process of signing up will remain same and you will have to sign up a contract with VERDE ENERGY. Each contract will be processed separately and may have different repayment schedules based on the agreed terms in each contract.
