The training miles are in the bag and now they’re off, as the Power2Pedal team embark on their marathon cycle challenge through the UK and Ireland in aid of Children's Hospices this week.
Airtricity's Liam O’Riain is flying the flag for Ireland and is cycling the 700km Half Stage from Inverness to Dublin to raise funds for Airtricity’s chosen charity, the LauraLynn Children’s Sunshine Home, Ireland’s first-ever national children’s hospice. Monies raised from the team Challenge will also go to the Northern Ireland’s Children’s Hospice.
Liam joined the 24-strong Power2Pedal team as they set off from our Inverness depot yesterday at 9am after being given a traditional Highland send off with hearty bowls of porridge and a piper playing them out on to the road to Pitlochry, their final destination for the day. Today's stage sees Liam and the team travel further south to Lanark, stopping off at the Perth and Cumbernauld sites along the way.
Liam will lead the team as they embark on the Irish leg of the cycle on Saturday from Belfast to Dublin, passing through the Mournes, Dundalk, historic Slane, and a final racing sprint past Fairyhouse towards the Phoenix Park. On Sunday, the full team will pay a visit to the LauraLynn Children’s Sunshine Home in Leopardstown, close to Airtricity House, which is currently under-construction and due for completion next year.
Sponsoring Liam and donating to the LauraLynn Children’s Sunshine Home is simple…
A MyCharity page has been set up for Liam’s challenge – you can find it on http://www.mycharity.ie/event/power2pedal_liamo/
Remember all monies raised by Liam will go towards the development of Ireland’s first-ever National Children’s Hospice.
